Refactoring Redmine – Business Update

It’s been awhile since I posted an update on my Refactoring Redmine ebook, so I wanted to post an update you on how it’s been doing.  These numbers are the grand totals since Refactoring Redmine as first launched in September 2010.

  • 11,807 visits
  • 9,363 unique visits
  • Visitor to sale conversion rate of 1.0904%
  • 128 copies sold
  • Grossed $4,970, before e-junkie and Paypal fees

It’s hard to believe that it’s been for sale for almost 10 months now. Sales have slowed down but I’m still getting emails from buyers saying how the book has helped them avoid major code smells. If you have any other questions about the book itself or refactoring Rails, let me know in the comments below.

  1. Glad to hear that the book is doing well. Congratulations!

Question: As someone that only recently learned (the basics of) Rails 3, do you think I’d be able to follow along with the code. I expect that Redmine was on Rails 2 at the time you wrote it.

I think you could follow along. Redmine was (and still is) on Rails 2 but I think the majority of the code would be the same or close to the same in Rails 3. Each refactoring shows the code before and after so you can see how it changes, which is a big part of refactoring. (I should blog more about how refactorings change the structure of the code more…)

If you want, the first 5 chapters are available on http://www.refactoringredmine.com as a sample download.

I think maybe it’s just lake of promotion. I wrote a newbie guide of Rails. http://rails-101.logdown.com .
    last month.

In 2 month, I sold over 150 copies.

my secret is every time when I wrote a blog post about Rails ( I also have a popular blog : http://blog.xdite.net, has over 5500 feedburner subscribers). I always put a promotion section under my blog to promote this book.

Each time I did this, I always earn 3 customer that day.

hope this tip can help you. your book is a awesome book.

Wow, congratulation on selling so many copies. I agree, I need to promote Refactoring Redmine more.

Where are you putting a promotion section on your blog? Is it in every post, in the RSS feed, or just the one on the sidebar?

    this is example : http://blog.xdite.net/?p=2604

I put the advertise in the post manually. It will appear on website and RSS.
